According to research in the field of leadership, there are certain traits and attributes that are deemed most beneficial in implementing the best decisions in an organization. These traits include intelligence, self-confidence, determination, integrity, and sociability, among others. Leaders who possess these traits are often able to make effective decisions that drive positive outcomes for their organizations (Yukl, 2013).

In addition to these individual traits, there are also certain leadership styles that can greatly impact organizational effectiveness. Two such styles are charismatic and transformational leadership. While charismatic leaders are able to inspire and motivate their followers through their personal charm and appeal, transformational leaders are known for their ability to inspire change, innovation, and growth within their organizations (Bass & Riggio, 2006). Both styles have different effects on organizational effectiveness.

In the context of implementing new innovative technologies, charismatic leadership can play a crucial role. Charismatic leaders have the ability to create a vision and inspire their followers to rally behind it. This can be particularly effective in promoting the acceptance and adoption of new technologies within an organization. Employees are more likely to embrace change and be open to new ideas when they are motivated and inspired by their leaders (Avolio, Walumbwa, & Weber, 2009).

On the other hand, transformational leadership also has a significant impact on implementing new technologies. Transformational leaders not only inspire their followers, but also provide them with the necessary support, resources, and guidance to effectively implement new technologies. This leadership style fosters an environment of innovation and learning, where employees feel empowered and motivated to explore new possibilities (Bass & Riggio, 2006).

When it comes to strategic and operational decision-making, different work characteristics and focus areas come into play. Table 8.1 in the reading highlights the distinctions between traditional and high-performance focus. Traditional focus is characterized by stable routines, formalized procedures, and a hierarchical structure, whereas high-performance focus emphasizes flexibility, collaboration, and a flatter organizational structure (Daft, 2018).

In the context of strategic decisions, which are typically long-term and have a significant impact on the overall direction of the organization, a high-performance focus is generally considered more suitable. This is because strategic decisions often require innovative thinking, adaptability, and a willingness to take risks, all of which are facilitated by a high-performance culture (Daft, 2018).

On the other hand, operational decisions, which are more routine and day-to-day in nature, are better suited for a traditional focus. This is because operational decisions require consistency, efficiency, and adherence to established procedures, which are inherent in a traditional organizational structure (Daft, 2018).

In conclusion, leader traits and attributes such as intelligence, self-confidence, determination, integrity, and sociability are beneficial in making effective decisions in an organization. Charismatic and transformational leadership styles impact organizational effectiveness by inspiring and motivating employees, particularly when implementing new technologies. A high-performance focus is best for strategic decisions, as it fosters innovation and adaptability, while a traditional focus is more suitable for operational decisions, which require consistency and adherence to procedures.
